Juicing benefits

There are a great many health benefits that we can obtain from drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juices. These include reducing our blood pressure; lowering the risk of heart disease, stroke, and potentially some cancers too; less chance of eye and digestive issues; as well as an evening effect on our blood sugar that may help keep our appetite in check. This page will contain details of how my body condition improves when I drink juices every day as well as links to other relevant pages related to the benefits of juicing.

Fruit and vegetable intake

The World Health Organization

recommends the intake of a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables per day (excluding potatoes and other starchy tubers) for the prevention of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity

And The Harvard School of Public Health says that we

should aim for at least nine servings (at least 4½ cups) of vegetables and fruits a day, and potatoes don’t count.

This seems like quite a lot of fruit and vegetables that we are supposed to chomp through each and every day. However if we use a juicer we give ourselves a much better chance of consuming at least the minimum suggested intake per day.

Many people will already know, however I want to point out for completeness, that when we juice fruits and vegetables we are extracting the liquid nutrition containing water, vitamins and minerals and discarding the fiber that the produce contains. Therefore it is important that we also eat some fresh produce throughout the day so that we obtain adequate fiber from our diets.

That said, when using a juicer it is so easy to get the nutrients from about five servings of fruit and veg contained in one easy to drink, delicious juice.

Juicing benefits according to the Juice Fiend

When I drink a fresh juice every day I find that I get the most benefit from it if I have a juice with my breakfast in the morning. It is probably part mental too. I find that when I drink a fresh homemade juice with my breakfast I am more alert throughout the day; I have more energy; and a more positive outlook too. Of course I know that there are plenty of juicing benefits such as hydrating my body and getting abundant nutrition, vitamins and minerals however the effects that I am able to notice are those stated above.

What juicer to use?

Juice drinkers all over the world have their own personal preferences when it comes to types of juicers. Personally I use a Magimix le Duo juicer for the majority of my juicing needs. This is a centrifugal juicer. As are Breville juicers which are popular in the United States.

Some juicing purists argue that centrifugal juicers actually destroy some of the nutrition during the juicing process because they operate at such high speeds. Instead these people find that using masticating or twin gear juicers are more suitable to their requirements. These machines however are typically more expensive, have more parts to assemble and clean and also take longer to juice than centrifugal juicers. Regardless of what machine you use, the important point to bear in mind is that we get a great deal of benefits from juicing.
